Sangrita

Spicy shots of tomato juice with chilli and lime, usually served with tequila.

5 minutes.Serves 4.

Ingredients

250ml tomato juice
100ml freshly squeezed orange juice
2 x limes, juiced
1 x mild green chilli, deseeded and very finely chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to season
Tequila (for shots)

Instructions

1. Stick the tomato juice, orange juice, lime and chopped chilli in a jug, mix well then add salt and pepper to season – dip your finger to taste and add more seasoning if you need to!

2. Cover the jug with cling film and leave it in the fridge for an hour or so until well chilled – it’ll keep in the fridge for 3-4 hours if you want to make it in advance.

3. Pour the tomato mix into 4 shot glasses, then pour neat tequila into 4 other shot glasses.

Make it your way

Try drinking these the Mexican way – take a sip of sangrita from one shot glass, then a sip of tequila from your second shot glass!

Cook’s tips

To make a longer drink, double the quantities of tomato juice, orange juice, chilli and lime, then add the tequila to the mix. Stir well then pour into long glasses with an ice cube or two.
